HMS Endeavour

HMS Endeavour

The first stage after assembling the frames to the keel is to fit the plywood decks upon which the deck planks will be laid. After gluing all the deck planks, “nails” were fitted which consisted of 0.6mm brass wire installed into holes drilled into the plank ends.

The finished model will be mounted on pillars on a baseboard so 6mm threaded inserts were fitted to the keel to allow for 6mm machine screws to be inserted from underneath the baseboard, through the pillars and into the keel.

The first planking commenced on the hull.

First planking finished.

Secod planking finished.

This is the picture on the box.

I did not think that the finished hull was appealing enough so I decided to modify the hull to the scheme of a later version of the kit that a friend of mine built.

Hull modified.

Painted.

Rudder assembly.

Channels, portholes, and windows fitted to the hull sides and deck fittings added.

To be continued .....
